I've been wracking my brain wondering what I should be doing to make this studio do more than just stay afloat. It's been lovely having guest come in and oogle at what I'm making, AND I LOVE having company but that isn't the point of the workspace (well not entirely!).
So, I've been trying something I told myself I'd never do, I've spent the last month experimenting with mold making, and it's been hilariously entertaining. I've had in my mind, the idea that mold making was beyond what I could handle. For years I watched the talented crew at the now defunct Franklin Mint work their magic with rubber, as if it were some kind of wizardry ... I'm thinking now either things (materials etc) have evolved enough for me, OR I have evolved enough for mold making! I started with a little fishy, but I've really run with what I will be sharing today.
Sam is a gentle reminder that we MAY complain, but our audience may not be excited to listen, even a camptive one. His expression is a weary attentive one as he bites his lip holding back any actual criticism, he will wait quietly for you to finish your rant as a stalwart observer sans judgement.
Sam is a very first attempt at casting originals in small batch production (very small). All castings are made from entirely hand sculpted original art in my studio, castings are in resin. Each piece is inspected and perfected before then being hand painted and sealed and released into the world! Each piece is signed and numbered, and provided with a COA. This piece has been designed to hang flush on the wall via nail or screw.
My Plan is to try to sell these little fellas as kind of a fundraiser for the studio, This is also a test to see if there even is a market for casting for my work out there. One of the most common notes I get from people is "Love your work, wish I could afford it." So this is my attempt at getting a more affordable product out without going to the poorhouse in the process... however the process upfront definitely has put a dent in my wallet, so my beloved well wishers DO YOUR THING and hope for the best (crossing fingers!).
If you are interested in supporting my efforts and want to purchase a SAM of your very own please contact me at
studiowillich@gmail.com the price is $45 a piece. His dimensions are 2 1/4 x 2 1/2 x about an inch deep. IF there is interest enough I will include a paypal link in time. At this time I am offering free shipping in the continental US.
It is my intention to post on this blog page regularly, and have been researching Patreon. If my fellow artists out there have words of wisdom my eyes and ears are open and interested! Have a lovely day ♥
I absolutely LOVE Sam!! I will buy them!!
